Tipped stack of formation material causes construction injuries

On Behalf of | Dec 6, 2016 | Construction Workers' Accidents, Firm News

Colorado construction workers likely know the dangers they face on a daily basis. One would expect employers to provide personal protective gear to all employees on site, but that is often not the case. A worker in another state recently suffered construction injuries in a fall accident that left him trapped.

Emergency workers responded to a building site at approximately 9 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. The accident report indicates that the worker was standing on a heap of formation material on the 12th story of an apartment building under construction. The stack tipped, and the man fell a short distance. However, some of the formation material fell on top of him, trapping him underneath.

Reportedly, co-workers managed to free the injured worker, but they were unable to bring him to safety because the elevator only operated up to the sixth floor. Firefighters joined the rescue operation and lifted the victim into a crane basket. The crane then lowered him to street level, and he was rushed him to a hospital. It was not reported whether the worker wore fall protection at the time of the accident.

Colorado workers who suffer construction injuries may be off work for extended periods while they are recuperating. Not only will this bring about high medical expenses but also a loss of income. To ease the financial burden, the workers’ compensation insurance system provides benefits that will cover those expenses and losses. Many injured victims choose to use the services of an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to pursue compensation for them.
