Colorado workplace deaths down but still 77 killed

Workers’ compensation benefits can include death benefits for surviving family members which are important for workers and their families to be familiar with. Workers’ compensation benefits can serve as a safeguard for injured workers and their families in a variety of ways when they have suffered harm on the job.

A recent report out from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment showed that worker fatalities in Colorado decreased slightly last year. Though the number was a decrease from the prior year, 77 workers were still killed in fatal workplace accidents in Colorado last year which is down from 81 the previous year. That still represents 77 lives lost in the workplace and 77 families impacted by a workplace fatality in Colorado last year.

In addition, workplace fatalities among construction workers showed a 58 percent increase during 2017. Earlier this year, a Colorado construction company was cited by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration for safety violations. The company was accused of failing to conduct regular site inspections to be able to identify safety hazards and correct them. The failure to maintain a safe workplace led to the death of a worker and a fine a little over $57,000 When employees are left at risk on the job, workers’ compensation disability protections can help.

Workers’ compensation benefits can help when there has been a fatal workplace accident or another type of workplace accident that has injured workers. Regardless of the circumstances, both workers and their families can end up being harmed and as victims of a workplace accident which is why they need to know what options are available to help.
