With large machines and heavy materials all around, construction workers in Colorado and elsewhere may face a variety of potential risks every day. A significant portion of construction-related incidents involve workers who are struck by equipment, and these accidents unfortunately run a high risk of ending in catastrophe. A man was recently killed in a construction accident in another state after he was reportedly struck by a heavy piece of equipment.
The incident reportedly took place at a construction site just after 2 p.m. on a recent Friday. According to reports, the man was operating a drilling machine when a heavy piece of equipment fell over and trapped him against the cab of the machine. Witnesses assert the man was crushed by this piece of equipment, and although emergency responders were called out to the scene, he was pronounced dead soon thereafter.
Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have reportedly initiated an investigation into the fatal incident. Although no further information was provided, they have advised that it appears to have been an accident, and no foul play is suspected. For surviving family members, losing a loved one in such a sudden way can be a difficult thing to accept.
Families who lose a loved one in a fatal construction accident may also face financial concerns that can accompany a sudden loss of income and end-of-life expenses. While surviving family members could be entitled to financial relief, applying for benefits through the workers’ compensation insurance system can be stressful and intimidating. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can provide a person in Colorado with guidance on how to pursue the full amount of benefits achievable through the necessary outlets.
