A recent accident at the construction site of a casino has reportedly claimed the life of a 56-year-old man who was operating an excavator. Accidents involving hazardous equipment are far too common, and even with the necessary safety procedures in place, preventing every incident could prove difficult at best. Each of these incidents also has the unfortunate chance of causing serious harm to a construction worker in Colorado, or worse.
According to reports, the incident took place as the man was attempting to take apart a trench box with the use of an excavator. While many of the details concerning what took place remain unclear, emergency responders apparently found the man to be unresponsive upon arriving at the scene. Although they claim he regained consciousness shortly before he was transported for treatment, he reportedly succumbed to his injuries at the hospital soon thereafter.
Construction companies generally require employees to undergo strict training procedures pertaining to the safe operation of such heavy duty machinery. However, while understanding how to safely run an excavator may be helpful, it might not protect workers against unforeseen circumstances. Any defective parts within the machine or an instability in the surrounding area can leave a worker facing a hazardous situation in which preventing an accident could be nearly impossible.
Accidents involving hazardous equipment can be dangerous, and far too many families have lost someone close under similar circumstances. The financial ramifications of such a loss can be severe, and may leave surviving family members in search of some much-needed relief. When facing a similar situation, a family in Colorado could consider speaking with an attorney for guidance in pursuing relief through the workers’ compensation insurance system, as well as any other source that may be applicable.
