2 injured, 1 killed after being shocked in construction accident

On Behalf of | Apr 19, 2018 | Construction Workers' Accidents, Firm News

Although there are numerous scenarios in which the safety of construction workers in Colorado and elsewhere could be placed in harm’s way, one of the most common incidents in a similar field pertains to electrical hazards. Workers who operate near electrical lines must proceed with caution, as the threat of electrocution or shock remains ever present. Two workers were injured and another was killed in a recent construction accident involving similar circumstances.

The incident reportedly took place as the workers were using a machine to perform repairs on a sewer system. At some point, the machine came in contact with high-tension power lines, subsequently sending electricity through the machine and shocking the workers. All three were transported to a medical facility shortly after the accident, and while two of them reportedly remain in the hospital, the other has been pronounced dead.

According to reports, the lines the machine hit were carrying nearly 23,000 volts of electricity, and many in the surrounding area lost power after the incident. For workers, accidents of this nature can be life-altering, or worse, and those injured under similar circumstances may spend months, or even years, in rehabilitation. The financial ramifications of long-term treatment can be substantial and may leave a worker in search of some much-needed relief.

Victims who suffer serious injuries or lose someone close in a dangerous construction accident may be eligible for relief through the workers’ compensation insurance system. However, without experience in the area, the process of pursuing benefits can be stressful and intimidating. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can provide a person in Colorado with advice and assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation available.
