Fatal construction accident caused by trench collapse

On Behalf of | Mar 1, 2018 | Construction Workers' Accidents, Firm News

Working around unstable ground is a concern for many construction workers in Colorado and across the nation. When a job-site requires the use of a trench, ensuring the proper precautions are taken is a must, as failing to do so could result in a catastrophic accident. A man has died following a recent construction accident during which he reportedly became entrapped in a trench that wasn’t properly shored.

The incident took place on a recent Monday at around 1:30 p.m. as the man was performing job-related duties at a building that was scheduled for demolition. According to reports, the man suddenly became entrapped in the trench, and nearby workers claim they could hear him calling out. Emergency personnel responded to the scene soon thereafter, but they were unable to rescue him from the trench, and were instead tasked with attempting to recover his body.

An investigation into the incident was initiated, and officials have advised that the trench didn’t appear to be properly shored. According to emergency responders, the trench was at least 10 feet deep. Working near a deep crevice that isn’t properly secured can be exceedingly dangerous, and accidents involving similar circumstances have claimed far too many lives over the years.

A fatal construction accident can be a devastating incident that could leave a family grieving over an untimely death. With the potential loss of income and likelihood of extensive end-of-life expenses, the financial ramifications of such a loss can weigh heavily on a family. Fortunately, relief may be available to those who face similar circumstances, and a family in Colorado could retain the services of an experienced attorney for assistance in pursuing compensation through all available outlets.
