Many companies in Colorado and elsewhere make use of commercial vehicles to assist in the transportation of materials and goods. With their inherent size and weight, these vehicles can carry heavy loads, but they can also pose a threat to nearby workers, as a workplace injury involving a semi runs the risk of ending in catastrophe. A recent workplace accident involving such a vehicle has claimed the life of a 30-year-old man.
According to law enforcement agents, the incident took place just before 8 p.m. on a recent Wednesday when the man was helping the driver of a commercial vehicle back into a loading dock. For reasons unknown, he suddenly became trapped between the vehicle and the dock. Upon parking the truck, the driver proceeded to go about his job and states that he didn’t find the man for nearly 15 minutes.
Upon locating the man and noticing that he was unresponsive, the driver attempted to move the truck and free him. Unfortunately, he had already suffer fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene soon thereafter. Although an investigation is underway, no information was provided as to how such a dangerous incident might have occurred. Attempting to help regarding a semi under similar circumstances can be dangerous, and a moment of inattention on behalf of either party can result in disaster.
Losing a family member to a fatal workplace injury can be a devastating experience. With the extensive cost of end-of-life expenses and the potential loss of income, those who experience such a loss could face financial hardships, potentially prompting a need to seek relief through the workers’ compensation insurance system. Since the process can be complex, one could consult with an experienced attorney in Colorado for assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation entitled.
