Many construction workers in Colorado and elsewhere use lifts to assist with duties that would otherwise be difficult to reach. While operating a lift, a worker must use caution, especially when in close proximity to active power lines. A recent construction accident in another state has claimed the life of a man who was electrocuted while on the job.
According to reports, the incident took place just after noon on a recent Thursday as the man was working at the construction site of local condominiums. He was operating inside a hydraulic lift, when for unknown reasons, he suddenly came in contact with nearby power lines. Emergency responders were called out to the scene, but the man was reportedly pronounced dead before they could arrive.
It is unclear if the man was operating the lift at the time of the incident, or if another worker may have been tasked with this responsibility. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, as officials work to determine what may have caused it to occur. According to officials, the lift will also be inspected during this period, to determine if it may have malfunctioned in any way.
A fatal construction accident can be a devastating incident that leaves surviving family members to grieve the loss of someone close. With extensive costs of end-of-life expenses, as well as a potential loss of income, such a tragic event could leave a family in search of restitution, potentially prompting a need to speak with an experienced attorney for guidance. An attorney can assist a client in Colorado in navigating the process of filing for benefits through the workers’ compensation insurance system, and assist in pursuing any further restitution to which he or she may be entitled.
