Workplace injury proves fatal for man who was ran over by a semi

Tractor-trailers offer a variety of benefits to Colorado companies that are required to transport heavy loads. While these vehicles significantly reduce the difficulty of moving materials from site to site, the inherent size and weight of a semi can also pose a risk to anyone nearby. A man was recently run over by a semi in another state while performing maintenance on the vehicle, ultimately resulting in a fatal workplace injury.

According to reports, a 52-year-old man was working on a tractor-trailer at a local lumber company. Upon opening the cab and starting the semi, it began to roll backwards. He was knocked down and run over by the front wheels. Early investigations suggest that the vehicle was in reverse at the time, and that his death was apparently accidental.

It is unclear if he was the primary driver of the truck or if another individual could have been responsible for keeping it in reverse. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has apparently launched an investigation regarding his death. The company in question has reportedly been the subject of as many as 12 investigations in the past 10 years alone, some of which resulted in monetary fines.

Losing someone to a fatal workplace injury is a sudden and unexpected tragedy that has left many families in the past with extensive emotional and financial hardships. Surviving family members often find themselves in need of financial relief following such a loss, and many choose to speak with an attorney for guidance in the process. An attorney in Colorado can advise a family of the available options for compensation, and subsequently assist them in pursuing the full amount obtainable.
