Colorado workers now that many jobs in our state can be dangerous. This is especially true of a worker is untrained or lacks the requisite knowledge to do the job that they were assigned. This may have been what happened to one young man who suffered a bizarre injury during employment in 2010.
The man was a temporary employee of a foam and carpet cushion company. He was assigned to work with a foam-cutting machine, though not formally trained on the operation of the machine. In addition, he asserted, the machine had been altered to remove its safety guard and had an emergency off switch that only worked occasionally.
As the man worked on the fateful day, the foam-cutting machine malfunctioned, causing the blade to come into contact with his body. In fact, the machine’s blade cut off the man’s penis and testicles. The good news is that the man was already the father of several children at the time of the incident. This workplace injury caused the man much suffering and likely took a great deal of time to recover enough to return to employment.
After this workplace injury the man made a claim to his state’s workers’ compensation program for the damage caused during to him as a result of his workplace injury. He received benefits that likely assisted him and his family as he worked to recover from this life-altering event. Like others in similar situations in Colorado, the man in this case was able to at least deal with the economic costs of the workplace accident using benefits such as workers” compensation.
