Colorado woman suffers workplace injury

On Behalf of | Mar 15, 2013 | Firm News, Workplace Injuries

When a worker in Colorado suffers injury while on the job, it can affect nay aspects of their lives. In fact, suffering a workplace injury can result in the end of some hobbies and life activities. This, in combination with the inability to work due to the workplace injury, can leave some people feeling lost and helpless.

This was not the case for one Colorado woman who was injured on the job recently. The woman, known as Chick’n to her friends and family, was at work as a welder at Big Boy Manufacturing. As she worked, her fingers got caught in a welding machine and were crushed. She was taken to a local hospital for medical care after the accident.

As a result of the workplace injury, Chick’n is unable to return to her former employment as a welder. She has endured 6 surgeries to repair her hand since the accident. The recovery has also stopped her, at least temporarily, from pursuing her passion of roller derby racing. However, Chick’n has been able to obtain new employment as a Safety Manager at her former place of work.

Suffering a workplace injury can be a life changing event for some in Colorado. Though Chick’n was able to find new employment, some are not as lucky and must turn to long-term benefits from programs like our state’s workers’ compensation program. When that happens, the individual can benefit from the intent of the program to assist in recovery with payments that include those for basic needs as well as medical care. If a person is injured at work, they may find it helpful to review the laws applying the workers’ compensation as they consider their need to receive the insurance benefit.
