Colorado police are investigating a horrific car accident that took place on a recent fall afternoon near an on-ramp of a busy highway. The crash led to the death of two people who were working on a local highway just prior to the incident. Now, some officials may be considering how the dangerous construction job of working on a busy road can be made safer for workers.
The two men were near an exit off of Colorado’s C-470 highway when the crash occurred. As a driver came off of the highway and was exiting onto Broadway, he lost control of his SUV. The driver struck the two men, and then crashed into another vehicle at the intersection. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured in the incident.
It is unclear exactly why the driver of the SUV lost control of his car. What is known is that the workers were performing the dangerous construction job of repairing a portion of the busy C-470 highway. The construction project is a part of the Douglas County Improvement Project.
The workers who died were employees of Concrete Works of Colorado. Like many such workers in our state, they were on a dangerous construction job intended to improve our roadways. Now, their families are left to grieve their loss as they wait for an official investigation to determine exactly why the driver of the SUV ran into their loved ones. Once the investigation concludes, the surviving families may find that they are able to seek a monetary award for the loss under our state’s workers’ compensation program.
