Falling objects: Tower of rebar injures 2 workers

On Behalf of | Nov 23, 2017 | Construction Workers' Accidents, Firm News

Construction companies in Colorado and elsewhere employ a variety of tactics in the transportation and safe and secure placement of heavy loads. Falling objects pose a significant threat to workers in a variety of occupations, especially those that are of considerable size and weight. A recent workplace accident has left two individuals with injuries after a tower of rebar suddenly fell on top of them.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 2:30 p.m. on a recent Saturday as the men were operating at the construction site of a high-speed rail viaduct. Officials assert that a tower of rebar suddenly fell and collided with another tower, causing it to strike the men in the process. Emergency responders were called out to the scene, and although extraction wasn’t necessary, both were rushed to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Officials have stated that an investigation is underway, which will likely look to determine what may have caused the tower to fall. Construction companies are required to provide employees with a safe workspace free of hazards, which includes the use of proper procedures in securing such heavy objects. When this doesn’t occur, the results can be catastrophic, and the workers may be the ones who suffer the consequences.

Individuals who suffer serious injuries due to falling objects on the job site may face various hardships, physical and financial alike. Those who experience similar circumstances may be entitled to benefits through the workers’ compensation insurance system, but the process can be difficult to navigate alone. By speaking with an attorney in Colorado, an individual could obtain assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation deserved through every applicable outlet.
