Roof collapse during demolition leads to fatal workplace injury

On Behalf of | Aug 30, 2017 | Firm News, Workplace Accidents

Certain fields of employment may be inherently more dangerous than others. Even with numerous safety procedures in place, employees in Colorado and elsewhere who work in demolition may face a certain level of risk on a daily basis. A man has recently suffered a fatal workplace injury after a roof caved in at the site of a scheduled demolition project in another state.

According to reports, the incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on a recent Friday, when the man was working inside a building that was scheduled to be torn down. He was apparently alone when the roof suddenly collapsed on top of him. Nearby workers made use of heavy equipment to remove parts of the collapsed roof and rescue him, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Numerous crews were operating at the building at the time of the incident, each working toward tearing it down. However, it is unclear what might have caused this particular section of the roof to collapse while the man was still inside. When several different groups are working on separate parts of a demolition project, communication and awareness of worker positions could be the key to preventing such a tragic accident.

When a person suffers a fatal workplace injury, his or her family could face numerous hardships following an untimely death, emotional and financial alike. Families who lose someone close under similar circumstances could be entitled to compensation, but the process can be stressful and intimidating, potentially spurring a need for assistance. By speaking with an experienced attorney, a client in Colorado could obtain some much-needed assistance in pursuing the compensation deserved through the necessary outlets.
