OSHA cites a Colorado dairy company for high workplace injury

On Behalf of | May 23, 2013 | Firm News, Workplace Injuries

A Colorado workplace has been hit with numerous violations by OSHA. Sinton Dairy Foods Company was on an OSHA list with other companies that had high incidences of workplace injury and workplace illness. OSHA has started targeting these companies aggressively in order to reduce accidents and on-the-job sickness.

After an OSHA inspection of the Colorado based company, several violations were documented. The company also reportedly had some repeat violations during this inspection. The hazards cited included fall hazards, electrical hazards, chemical hazards and not having proper safety procedures in place. Sinton has up to 15 days to comply with the violations and pay the fines, request a meeting with OSHA to assess the violations or formally contest the findings.

OSHA is concerned with preventing a workplace injury or illness from occurring. The company must now fix and make necessary changes to ensure the safety and welfare of its workers. Although making these necessary changes may prove costly, injuries sustained as a result of an employer’s negligence may prove to be more costly.

A workplace injury can be a physical, mental and emotionally trying event. The employee may have to miss work and lose wages as a result of their injury, and this typically causes a financial hardship because the victim is now unable to support themselves or their family financially. The victim does have options in obtaining financial support. Filing a workers’ compensation claim is a viable option that could put a dramatic ease on the financial strains and allow the employee to focus on getting well and returning to the workplace.
