Two construction workers die in crane accident

On Behalf of | Jul 19, 2012 | Construction Workers' Accidents, Firm News

As many construction workers know, working in this industry can be dangerous. Crane accidents can be particularly devastating. Recently, two construction workers tragically lost their lives in such an accident in another state. Colorado construction workers who often work with the fear of suffering a construction accident can no doubt relate to what the families of those slain workers are going through.

This particular accident occurred on a college campus in the south central region of the country, where two workers were dismantling parts on top of a construction crane. The crane toppled and hit a nearby building, resulting in the two workers’ deaths. Fortunately, nobody else was hurt in the incident. Construction on the college’s arts and technology building was suspended so that an OSHA investigation could be conducted.

The student body president at the Texas college noted that severe weather conditions could have been a contributing factor in the accident. He said that there were high wind conditions at the time this construction accident occurred. A meteorologist for the National Weather Service reported that thunderstorms did bring wind gusts reaching speeds up to 40 mph into the area on that day.

Crane accidents such as this one tragically leave family members mourning the lives of construction workers that have been cut short. While nothing can undo the horrible accident, workers’ compensation death benefits typically can at least assist with expenses and lost income. Relatives who have lost loved ones in a similar Colorado construction accident may also qualify for workers’ compensation death benefits in their own situation. As for the Texas accident, it can only be hoped the families find the strength to cope with their grief and that the appropriate investigations lead to increased safety measures designed to avert similar disasters in the future.
